When you are looking to get a new awning for your porch or patio you have the choice of hiring a professional company to do it or on your own. If you are going to build your own awning then you will need to have some do it yourself skills. You will need to know how to put the canopy together with the base equipment as well as know how to mount it onto the side of your home. If you are going to install a retractable awning then you will certainly want to make sure that you are comfortable in what you are doing. A retractable awning has a lot more moving parts that make it much more technical to install. On top of that, you may need an electrician to help you with the installation. Your best bet is to consult with a local company that will give you a free estimate and then decide from there.
